Job Description

The Department of Sociology at Radford University, a regional comprehensive university in the picturesque Blue Ridge and New River Valley regions of Southwest Virginia, seeks applications for a one-semester full-time position for the Spring of 2026. We are seeking a teacher/scholar with expertise and training in African American Studies who can contribute to our program. Our department of dedicated teacher-scholars includes a major and minor in Sociology and a growing and dynamic minor in African American Studies.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Sociology, African American Studies, or related field; demonstrated record of excellence in teaching; a record of scholarship or demonstrated potential for developing a productive program of scholarship; an ability to effectively mentor students and advocate for the minor in African American Studies. ABD candidates will be considered with confirmation of a graduation date.

Preferred Qualifications:

Administrative experience in directing a program; interest in teaching online courses; demonstrated experience that contributes to our applied sociology mission or to the Center for Social and Cultural Research.
