The Health Educator is charged with creating experiences with a diverse student body in mind, including all activity and ability levels. This position is responsible for the coordination of health education and promotion efforts, group fitness, fitness services (personal training, assessment, nutrition, etc.), wellness education, and outreach at Radford University. They will serve as an integral part of campus well-being enhancement. The Health Educator will report to the Associate Director of Student Recreation and Wellness and support the Fitness and Facility Coordinator.

All members of the Recreation & Wellness staff work to advance the Models of Practice for the Division of Student Affairs and Radford University's commitment to inclusivity to meet the ever-changing needs of a diverse student population. Further, staff members advance the department’s safety and risk management initiatives to create a positive and safe environment and promote the department’s Vivid Vision for Recreation and Wellness.

Essential Duties:
•Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate wellness ambassadors, interns, group fitness instructors, and personal trainers.
•Utilize assessment data regarding students’ health behavior and understanding of current health issues, best practices in the field, and supervisory input to assist in development and implementation of campus-wide health promotion activities, prevention campaigns, and fitness programming, utilizing peer programming strategies.
•Assist in collaboration and facilitation of the Food Recovery Program
•Develop measurable objectives for programs and services
•Manage fitness and wellness program budgets
•Develop semesterly schedule group fitness classes
•Maintain and troubleshoot AV needs for group fitness studios
•Serve as a member of the university’s Health and Wellbeing Council.
•Serve as a wellness resource for campus engagement by assisting with campus-wide initiatives and serving on committees as appropriate
•Plan and collaborate with campus and community partners and stakeholders to develop and implement services and programs that enhance student well-being

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field or a Bachelor’s degree and 2-years of related equivalent experience
• Demonstrated record of leadership and service.
• Knowledge of risk management, student engagement, event planning, presentation and/or teaching skills.
• Health/Wellness Certification (Certified Health Education Specialist, Wellness Coach, Health Coach, etc.) or possess current Personal Training/Group Exercise certification (ACE, NASM, NSCA, ASCM, CSCS, ACE, Schwinn, NASM, Les Mills, ZUMBA, etc.)
• Progressively responsible professional experience working in a student environment.
• Experience and understanding of collegiate health promotion and wellness programming, collegiate recreation fitness trends, collegiate group exercise class formats, and a proven ability to work with collegiate students in Health Promotion/Wellness programs.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the importance of student development in a higher education setting.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills; communication and customer service skills; and computer literacy.
• Experience with fitness class instruction and knowledge of collegiate fitness services (Personal Training, 1-on-1 Consultation, Assessment, etc.)
• CPR/FA/AED Certification within 90 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with national health, wellness, or student affairs organizations (NIRSA, ACSM, etc.)
• Experience supervising part-time staff and student employees
• Experience developing and implementing health and wellness education programs directed toward college-age populations, including managing peer health and fitness groups.
• Experience with programs/initiatives to reduce high-risk behaviors.
• Experience working with college students in a diverse setting.
• Experience with grant-writing, assessment, research and data collection/analysis.
