Job Description
The College of Nursing is seeking applicants for a new role in the largest and rapidly growing college at Radford University. The Communications & Alumni Coordinator provides day-to-day communications and digital support for the College of Nursing, executing approved content plans and assisting with routine communication tasks across web, social media, and alumni channels. This position works in close coordination with Alumni Relations as well as the College’s assigned Communications Partner within the central Office of Marketing and Communication, who leads communication strategy, develops messaging plans, and
oversees brand alignment.
This role is focused on internal and external content execution, administrative coordination, digital asset management, and alumni relations and event planning. The Communications & Alumni Coordinator works with the Dean and the Communications Partner in developing the college communication strategy and focuses on implementing approved plans to serve as a reliable point of coordination between the College of Nursing, centralized communication resources, and Alumni Relations.
Essential Job Functions:
Faculty, Student, and Alumni Communications Support
• Assists with internal content preparation, i.e., faculty, student, and research communications, including newsletters, event promotions, and announcements.
• Assists with content preparation for alumni communications, including newsletters, event
promotions, and announcements, following templates and plans developed by the Dean in
coordination with the Communications Partner.
• Coordinates internal logistics and communication details for college and alumni events in
partnership with the Dean’s Office and other related university offices.
Social Media Execution
• Executes the College of Nursing’s social media plan by scheduling and posting pre-approved
content across designated platforms.
• Assists with basic content organization and tracking to support the College’s and
Communications Partner’s social media strategy and editorial calendar.
• Monitors engagement activity and reports basic metrics to the Dean and assigned
Communications Partner.
Website & Digital Content Support
• Performs routine content updates to the College of Nursing website within the university’s
content management system (CMS), including page edits, uploads, and basic website
administration for the college.
• Assists with updating website content, faculty and staff listings, announcements, and event
content as directed by college leadership and the assigned Communications Partner.
• Ensures web content remains accurate, organized, and consistent with university brand and
messaging standards.
Brand & Messaging Coordination
• Helps ensure college communications align with university brand standards and messaging
guidelines in collaboration with the assigned Communications Partner.
• Serves as a point of coordination between the College of Nursing, the Dean’s Office, Alumni
Relations, and central Marketing & Communication for routine communication needs.
• Routes communication requests that exceed the scope of this role to the Communications
Partner or central Marketing & Communication team via established workflows.
Photo & Video Collection
• Supports the collection of photo and video content from College of Nursing events not covered by the Communications Partners or central Marketing & Communication resources.
• Coordinates with the Communications Partner to ensure collected assets to be posted on digital platforms align with current content plans and institutional storytelling needs.
Digital File Management
• Ensures content assets are properly labeled, archived, and accessible for use by the College
and Communications Partner.
Required Qualifications
• Experience with digital content management systems (CMS) and social media platforms.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with college leadership, the assigned Communications Partner, and Alumni Relations.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, brand-consistent content.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good professional judgment.
• Basic photography / videography skills for event coverage.
Education and Experience
• Education, experience and/or training in communications, marketing, digital media,
English or a related field.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in communications support, digital content, social media coordination, or related role.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with web content management systems (e.g., Modern Campus CMS, WordPress, or similar).
• Familiarity with social media scheduling tools and basic analytics platforms.
• Experience working in higher education, healthcare, or a comparable professional environment.
• Basic photo editing or digital asset management experience.
• Familiarity with email marketing tools or newsletter platforms.
Education and Experience
• Experience in higher education, healthcare communications, or working within a centralized
marketing/communications structure.
