Job Description

Reporting to the Account Resolution and Outreach Manager, the Account Resolution Specialist provides exceptional customer service while ensuring accurate and timely management of student accounts. This role is responsible for resolving account discrepancies, processing student refunds, and performing accounting functions that require a strong understanding of departmental operations. In addition, the specialist manages collection activities, working with students to establish payment arrangements, communicating with external collection agencies, and ensuring compliance with university and state regulations. Serving as a trusted liaison for students and internal stakeholders, the specialist handles sensitive account matters with professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting principles and practices. Ability to analyze fiscal transactions for conformity with procedures and regulations. Knowledge of financial/accounting and word processing software. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people. Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations. Strong attention to detail. Strong verbal/written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to work within tight and often conflicting deadlines. Must be flexible, show effective judgement, discretion and have the ability to handle confidential financial matters.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Banner and Nelnet
• Student accounts, collection, or accounts payable experience in a higher education workplace setting.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and diverse stakeholders in a dynamic higher education environment.
• Education, training, and/or experience in accounting or a related field, with an accounting certificate preferred or multiple years of applicable accounting/higher education experience.
