Job Summary

The School of Dance and Theatre at Radford University invites applications for the Chair of the Department of Dance, a tenure-track position at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, starting August 10, 2018. The Chair serves as the academic and administrative leader for a department of approximately 60 students and four full-time faculty members, and provides the strategic vision for the continuous improvement of programs, including strong recruitment effort, services and operations. In addition to teaching, the Chair leads the faculty in assessment, student retention, and curriculum development. Duties include advising faculty, scheduling courses, presiding over department meetings, coordinating tenure and promotion committees, strategic planning, managing department budgets, maintaining accreditation, serving as the department ombudsman, and developing and maintaining strategic partnerships. The department is an NASD accredited dance program.

This is a 9 month faculty position with administrative duties as chair which requires work throughout the calendar year.

Physical Demands
Required Qualifications

Must be able to teach all levels of ballet or modern technique, some theory classes (e.g. somatics, dance history, dance production), choreograph and/or stage works from repertoire.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of NASD is desired. Substantial national and/or international recruitment experiences are highly desired.

Education

An MFA or Ph.D. in Dance, Choreography or related terminal degree, significant experience teaching in a university setting, experience in management or academic administration, and significant professional dance experience.
