Job Description

Radford University invites applicants for a full-time special purpose or tenure-track position in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Radford University Carilion.

Job Description: Plans, implements, and evaluates academic curriculum and assigned teaching responsibilities. Serves as academic advisor for students. Participates in professional contributions and university service according to tenure-track versus special purpose faculty requirements, as qualified. Work is performed in several environments: office, classroom, skills laboratory, and clinical facilities where exposure to communicable diseases may be a moderate risk. Maintains contact with students and clinical facility personnel. Communicates regularly with program director and other faculty to coordinate student learning experiences. Maintains professional competence through continuing education and/or professional practice. May be asked to teach any subject pertinent to the education of Physician Assistant students and in accordance with educational background/training.


I. SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Teaching: Engages in teaching activities according to expertise in the classroom, laboratory and/or clinical setting. Participates in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the curriculum as appropriate to meet professional and accreditation standards. Evaluates student performance and assures the availability of remedial instruction.

2. Advising: Acts as academic advisor for assigned student load per advising policies. Maintains current and accurate advising files and records. Provides academic counseling for students, to include advisees as well as other students

3. Professional Contributions: Participates in creative intellectual activities to include the discovery, integration, and application of knowledge that is shared with, and validated by, peers in the appropriate professional discipline(s). The percentage of professional contribution expected for each faculty member is determined at the departmental level.

4. University Service: Functions and participates as part of the professional, departmental, college, university, and local communities by serving and providing leadership on committees and other workgroups. The percentage of university service for each faculty member will be determined at the departmental level.

5. Departmental Obligations: Participates in the development, review, and revision as necessary of the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program. Participates in the evaluation of the program. Participates in the selection of applicants for admission to the PA program.

6. Administration: Performs administrative duties as assigned.

7. Professional Competence: Maintains professional competence through continuing education and/or professional practice.

Required Qualifications

A. Education: Master’s Degree required in PA studies or terminal degree (or expectation of completion of terminal degree) in appropriate field for courses taught. Doctoral degree required to qualify for a tenure-track position.

B. Experience: Teaching experience preferred. At least 1 year of clinical experience required for faculty with a clinical provider background.

C. Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Required per professional title/certification requirements and accreditor requirements.

D. Other Minimum Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Good understanding of educational principles and methodologies. Ability to demonstrate psychomotor skills effectively while explaining steps to learning.

PA professionals must be NCCPA certified.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations are required per professional title/certification requirements and accreditor requirements.
