Title: Assistant Director, Capital Planning & Construction

Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Facilities Planning and Construction, the Assistant Director, Capital Planning & Construction is primarily responsible for administering Radford University's capital outlay projects, which include facility design and construction, from project inception to completion. The Assistant Director initiates the selection of A/E consultants, assists in the establishment of project design criteria and parameters, assists in the negotiation of A/E fees, evaluates payment requests by A/E consultants and contractors, and formulation of contracts and provides technical consultation on designs being developed by staff or consultants. The Assistant Director supervises project managers and inspectors, and accepts overall responsibility for work on capital outlay projects.

Required Qualifications

Considerable experience managing capital construction projects. Experience with administering phases of large budget projects, management and contract law. Experience providing designs and specifications for a variety of projects. Experience coordinating and managing projects with minimal supervision. Proficient knowledge of building codes and regulations. Experience supervising project managers, outside consultants and professional staff.

An advanced degree in a related field or a bachelor’s degree in a related field and demonstrated experience or equivalent training, education, licensure/certification, or experience.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

AutoCAD software knowledge. Experience working in higher education. VCCO certification. Experience with CPSM.
